UGA Strategy and Timeline

Aware of possible FLSA changes by the Department of Labor, UGA Human Resources began reviewing all staff job classifications in January 2016 to prepare for any changes in the regulation. Since then, HR has been working diligently to ensure a successful implementation of the changes announced in May.

Below is a timeline for UGA’s implementation of the FLSA changes. These dates are subject to change as the implementation process continues.

  • Human Resources is in the process of notifying UGA staff members who are potentially affected by the new FLSA exempt salary rule. This notification will allow those staff members to begin planning for possibly moving to biweekly pay.

Now through September:

  • Human Resources is contacting the HR partners or the unit chief financial officers of divisions, schools and colleges to: (1) provide an official list of classifications and their statuses under the new FLSA regulations; (2) provide a listing of impacted positions and affected staff for each unit to review; and (3) schedule meetings with unit management to review their rosters.

Now through October

  • HR is meeting with units to finalize their lists of impacted positions and staff. These meetings will be the time to address individual cases and instruct units on the logistics of completing the implementation, including personnel documents required for processing.
  • After unit-level meetings have been completed, departments will submit personnel reports for their affected staff. HR will also work with divisions, schools and colleges to communicate a final decision to those staff who will change from exempt to non-exempt status.

October through November

  •  Multiple opportunities for Kronos training for supervisors of new non-exempt staff and, if needed, their employees. In addition, budget planning workshops for staff moving to biweekly pay and training for supervisors new to supervising non-exempt staff.

November 17

  •  UGA's intended implementation date - affected staff members will transition from the monthly payroll to the biweekly payroll effective November 17, 2016.
